Pennie Walker

RULEVILLE- Pennie Jean Walker, age 76, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at her home in Ruleville, MS. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 10:00 AM in Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville, MS. Rev. Robert Smith will officiate. Pennie was born on July 7, 1945, in Ruleville, MS near the Cane lake community to T.A. Fleming and Hattie Lois Hollingsworth Fleming. She graduated from Ruleville High School and attended Mississippi Delta Community College. She married Pete Walker on November 27, 1964, in Ruleville. She owned and operated Weddings, Flowers and More, and Ruleville Feed & Seed for many years. Pennie was very talented and smart. Her nickname was "The Mayor of Ruleville" given by the many who came to her for advice. Pennie was a good Christian who was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for a number of years. Pennie was also a homemaker who was devoted to her family, helping raise each of her grandchildren. Pennie was also devoted to her Christian faith and to her church as well as her many friends. She also bought and sold property throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, T.A. Fleming and Hattie Lois Hollingsworth Fleming; a sister, Georgia Louise Haire, and her brother-in-law, Jack Haire. Pennie is survived by her husband of 56 years, Pete Walker of Ruleville, MS; Son, Peter Walker(Kraig) of Ruleville, MS; Daughter, Lara Thompson (Robert) of Ruleville, MS; Sister, Sue Pearce (David) of Sunflower, MS; 2 Brothers, Jimmy Dale Fleming (Joan) of Lynn, MS and Donnie Lynn Fleming (Glenda) of Malvern, AR; 7 Grandchildren, Rayann Sullivan (Wesley), Todd Thompson (Destiny), Brianna Walker (Hays), Jordan Bishop, Landon Walker,Bella Walker and Thomas Thompson (Mary Katelynn) . She also leaves 7 great grandchildren and two special family friends whom she considered her own Kathy Holmes and Ronny Henley. Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Foundation in care of the International Mission Board 3806 Monument Ave., Richmond, VA 23230 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38501. Pallbearers will be Jackie Haire, David Pearce, Jr., Michael Pearce, Donnie Fleming, Jr., Calvin Fleming, Jimmy Fleming, III, Johnny Rogers, and Kevin Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Fleming, Jr., Jerry Fleming, Donald Fleming, Tommy Fleming, Ronnie Henley. Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
