Arlas LaMastus

March 8, 1941 — June 14, 2011

Arlas Dickson LaMastus, age 70, of Drew, passed away on Tuesday June 14, 2011 at the Indywood Personal Care Home in Cleveland. She was born on March 8, 1941 to Jim Tom and Nellie (McKay) Dickson in Tippo, MS. She attended school in Tippo and graduated from Charleston High School in 1958 before obtaining a BS degree in Art from Delta State University in 1962.  She married Ed LaMastus on July 29, 1962 in Tippo, MS.  Mrs. LaMastus dedicated her life to her family and to her career as a teacher. She generously shared her creativity and love for the arts with her children and countless students in Coahoma, Sunflower and Bolivar counties. She retired from Hayes Cooper in 2006. She was a member of the Drew Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Archie Dickson, Sisters; Alene Jetton, Margaret Wulff, Elaine McCoy and brother Pat Dickson.Visitation for Mrs. LaMastus will be held Wednesday June 15, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Thursday June 16, 2011 from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM Thursday June 16, 2011 at Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at the Drew Cemetery. The Reverend Steve Wilson and Reverend Macklyn Hubbell will officiate the services.Survivors are; Husband of 48 years, Ed LaMastus of Drew, MS.  Sons, Eddie LaMastus of Bella Vista, AR,  Alan and wife (Chrissy) LaMastus of Cleveland, MS and  Trent and wife (Jennifer) LaMastus of Cleveland, MS.  Daughter, Casey and husband (Gary) Carr of Franklin, TN.  Sisters, Iris Mitchell of Greenville, MS,  Louise Brown of Booneville, MS, Clovis Cole of Charleston, MS, Jean Torbert of Ridgeland, MS and a Brother, John Dickson of Tippo, MS.  7 grandchildren; Derek LaMastus of Springdale, AR, S. Trent, Jr. and William Tucker LaMastus both of Cleveland, Camille, Lily, Reagan, and Will Carr all of Franklin, TN and a host of nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Gary Carr, Mack LaMastus, Bae LaMastus, Bobby Hemphill, Paul Pinson, and Brad Cooper.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Sunny Seniors Alzheimer's Respite Program 107 S.
