Mr. Carl York of Gunnison, MS, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 78 years old.

Carl was born on January 9, 1945, to Harvey York and Bertha Lee Rico York in Rosedale, Mississippi. He attended Gunnison Schools and went on to marry Patricia Ann Upton on March 18, 1966. Throughout his life, Carl was a dedicated farmer and taxidermist. He worked with Albert Day Farms, Finley Fish Farms, and Hood Farms before retiring. In 1972, he developed a passion for taxidermy which turned into a beloved hobby. Carl also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He had a great love for travel and cherished dining out with his friends and family.

Carl's devotion extended beyond his personal interests as he served as a long-time Deacon for Gunnison Baptist Church while also attending First Baptist Church in Rosedale. Family was incredibly important to him, and he adored his wife and son. His grandsons and great-granddaughter held a special place in his heart, and he had close relationships with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Bertha York, as well as his siblings; Phyllis Gordon, Tommy York, Harvey "Jr." York, Omagee Farrell, and Billy York.

Carl leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann York of Gunnison, MS. He is also survived by his son Darryl York (Melissa) of Cleveland, MS; grandsons Noah York (Whitney) and Ethan York; great-granddaughter Luna York; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 8th that Cleveland Funeral Home. Funeral services will commence at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will take place in Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, MS, with Reverend Chris Harris officiating.

The pallbearers honoring Carl's memory are Donnie Upton, Billy Bassie, Carey Hood, Richard Smith, Carey Estes, Jim Ed Brady, and Ralph Gardner. Honorary pallbearers include H. M. Chenault, George Scott, Carrol Pearson, and Howard Hood.
