Dorothy Jones Pate, 86, of Cleveland passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility.
Visitation will be held Friday December 5, 2014 from 12 o'clock noon until 1:45 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel with Doctor Macklyn Hubble and Brother Milton Burd officiating. Interment will follow at New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Pate was born on January 12, 1928 to David and Mattie (Skinner) Jones in Sunflower County. She was a lifelong resident of Bolivar County. She graduated from Linn High School, and attended Delta State University. She married Lawrence Brady Pate, Jr. on March 16, 1947. Mrs. Pate was a bookkeeper for Sterling Department Store for over 40 years and then worked as a teller at M&F Bank until she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland and was a long time member of the Joy Sunday School Class and served as the class secretary and enjoyed helping in the church kitchen. She was a member of the BPW Club, Cleveland Garden Club, and Auxiliary Volunteer at Bolivar Medical Center. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and loved her family and friends. She enjoyed catering, cooking and enjoyed her sweets more than life! She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence Brady Pate, Jr. of 44 years, and her parents, David and Mattie Jones, brothers; David Jones, Jack Jones and Robert Louis Jones, two sisters; Martha Jane Jones Pate and Francis Jones Prewitt.
Mrs. Pate is survived by her daughter, Alisa Pate of Cleveland, MS, brothers; Bernnie B. Jones (Gladys) of Cleveland, MS, Cecil C. Jones of Cleveland, MS and sisters; Betty Jean Jones Malatesta (Willie) of Olive Branch, MS, JoAnn Jones Silverblatt (Norman) of Kenner, LA, Carol Sue Jones of Cleveland, MS and Linda Jones Jefcoat (Larry) of Cleveland, MS. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Lillian Pate Andrews of Cleveland, MS and a many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
The family wishes to express their great appreciation for the dedication and care given to Mrs. Pate by her caregivers at Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility, all of the wonderful employees at North Sunflower Medical Center, Emergency Room, and Hospice, Dr. Adelo Aquino, Dr. Don Blackwood, Dr. Lamberto Cosue, Dr. Steven Clark and staff at Cleveland Medical Clinic, Dr. Lance Johnson, Dr. Michael Mansour, and Dr. Bennie Wright, and the dedication of special friends Margie Prescott, Ann & L. Hugh Ferguson, Johnnie Grissom, and Jeanette Bowman.
Pallbearers are; Jimmy Barrett, Bret Willingham, Bernnie Jones, Tony Jones, Ken Pate, Justin Pate. Honorary pallbearer; Tommy Naron.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 101 North Bolivar Avenue, Cleveland, MS, The Baptist Children's Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS, 39060, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or a charity of the donor's choice.
