Eleanor Lauren Redus Campbell, a beloved mother, and friend, passed away on May 1, 2023, at North Sunflower County Hospital in Ruleville, Mississippi. She was 98 years old.
Eleanor was born on May 24, 1924, to Lester L. and Sadie Mae Redus Duckworth, and was raised by her stepfather, W.A. Duckworth. She grew up in Mississippi and lived there for her entire life. She married J.L. Campbell, and they had two children, John and Karen.
Eleanor will always be remembered as a devoted mother and homemaker. She raised her children with love and discipline, and always kept a switch on top of the refrigerator to maintain order. In the mid-sixties, she had an opportunity to embark on a new career as a teacher in the Headstart program in Cleveland. She poured her heart into her work and was known for her dedication and creativity in helping her students reach their full potential.
Eleanor was also a dedicated member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, where she served on many committees over the years. Even as her eyesight began to fail due to macular degeneration and her mobility became limited, she never missed a morning or evening service on the live stream. She cherished her relationships with her pastor, Tim Starnes, and her many friends at church.
Eleanor is survived by her son John L. Campbell, daughter Karen C. Kamien. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband J.L. Campbell, and her son-in-law Artie Kamien.
