Elizabeth Shute Pentecost

GREENWOOD - Elizabeth "Bettye" Shute Pentecost, age 93, of Greenwood, MS, passed away on Saturday June 18, 2016 at the Indywood-Glen Personal Care Home in Greenwood.
Bettye was born on February 19, 1923 to Ernest and Lidie Mae(Daves) Shute in Coila, MS. She married James Madison Pentecost on October 10, 1942 in Bridgeport CT. She was an assistant cafeteria manager at Greenwood High School for 11 years. She also managed the cafeteria at Bankston for a number of years until she began working as a clerk for Deloach's and J C Penney's. Bettye loved singing in the choir at North Greenwood Baptist Church where she had a been a long time member and traveling with her family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her family.
Bettye was preceded in death by her Parents; Mr. & Mrs. Earnest Shute, her husband; James Pentecost, sisters; Burnice Shute, Margaret Shute and Earnestine; and brother, Marion Shute.
Visitation will be held Wednesday June 22, 2016 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM in the North Greenwood Baptist Church parlor. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the North Greenwood Baptist Church Sanctuary. Burial will be at the Coila Cemetery in Colia, MS. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate the service.
She is survived by a daughter Sharon (Earley) Watkins of Moody, TX, Son David (Celia) Pentecost of Greenwood, MS. 3 Sisters; Josephine (Bill) Watson of Montgomery, AL, Irene Fortinberry of Kentwood, LA and Martha Ensign of Pelahatchie, MS. 4 grandchildren; Jim Watkins, Kathy Sharkey, Lindsey Hair and Marley Sullivan. 9 Great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jim Watkins, Benjamin Hair, Dustin Sullivan, John Watson, Woody Whites and George Jeffords.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Indywood-Glen Personal Care Home, Grace Hospice and Margaret Henderson for all the love and care given to Ms. Bettye.
Memorials may be made to North Greenwood Baptist Church 615 Grand Blvd. Greenwood, MS 38930.
