Ernest "Pete" Nathaniel Newsom

STARKVILLE - Ernest Nathaniel "Pete" Newsom, age 92, of Starkville, MS, passed away on Tuesday April 24, 2018 at the Oktibbeha County Hospital. 

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Cleveland Funeral Home. Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Delta Heights Memorial Gardens. Rev. Robert Haney will officiate the services.

Pete was born on May 1, 1925 to Robert and Addie(Adilene) Newsom.  He married Mabel Carmonleta Newsom on March 18, 1940 in Mariana, AR.  Pete was a plantation manager for most of his life. He was also a Baptist minister. He loved fishing. Pete was very much a people person who loved everyone. His greatest passion was spreading the love of God.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Addie Newsom; his wife Mabel Carmonleta Newsom; 2 sons, Larry James Newsom and Robert Earl Newsom.

He is survived by Daughter, Sharon(Anthony) Perkins of Caledonia, MS; Daughter, Patty (Jimmy) Brackin of Starkville, MS;  Son, Donald Wayne(Denise) Newsom of Olive Branch, MS; Son, William Joseph "Billy" Newsom of Starkville, MS;  Son, Levon (Linda) Newsom of Nesbit, MS;  Brother, Guy Newsom of Starkville, MS; 21 Grandchildren, 22 Great-grandchildren, 2 Great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Newsom, Bobby Newsom, Bubba Newsom, Billie Bassie, Levi Wills and Jonathan Poe.
