Grace Shannon Lehr-Jenkins, age 94, of Ruleville, MS, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at her home.
Visitation will be held January 6, 2024 at 10:00am at Ruleville Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be held in Lehrton Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Turner will officiate the services.
Grace was born March 3, 1929, in Moorhead, MS to Roy Shannon and Hattie Alma Petrie Shannon. She attended Moorhead High School and Delta State University. Grace was a nurse and worked at the Old Cleveland Hospital, Bolivar Medical Center, North Sunflower County Hospital and Cleveland Clinic. She also owned her own insurance agency. Grace was a member of Ruleville Baptist Church, and The Red Hat Society. She was a life member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary. Grace was a former member of the Ruleville Garden Club and the 20th Century Club.
Grace was a very determined to reach her goals, whether it be earning her nursing license later in life, and then becoming an insurance agent at an age where other would have been retiring.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Lehr and James Jenkins; her father, Roy C. Shannon; her mother, Hattie Alma Petrie Shannon; her brothers, Roy C. Shannon, Jr., Thomas Earl Shannon and Dennis M. Shannon; her sisters, Bessie Hancock, Mamie Langham and Doris Horton; her son, Sonny Hairston, and her daughter Gloria Lehr.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Tommie E. Jack of Oregon; her son, William C. Lehr (Emily) of Brandon, MS; daughter in law, Andrea Hairston of Peck, Idaho. 9 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, and a few great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be numerous of Grace’s relatives.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Diabetes Association, Ruleville Baptist Church,or Dockery Baptist Church.
The family wishes to thank Shirley Walls, Grace’s long time caregiver, and the caring staff of Grace Hospice.
