Gregory Chester Powell

Gregory Chester Powell, age 61, of Cleveland, MS, passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2024. He was born on September 24, 1963, to Chester and Hilda Powell in Ohio.

Greg graduated from Drew High School and began his career at K-Mart, which led him to Colorado for eight years. Upon his return to Mississippi, he met and married Rona Sue Lowery. He subsequently worked with the Mississippi Highway Department and also held supervisory roles at Euro Corporation, as well as positions at Needle Specialty and Shell Rapid Lube, until health challenges necessitated his retirement.

Before losing his hearing, Greg found joy in listening to music, observing and listening to birds, and had a talent for fixing almost anything. He cherished spending time with his family and his beloved canine companion, Jackson.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Hilda Powell; wife Rona Sue Powell, his daughter, Chessica Powell; his sister, Sandra P. Bolden; and his nephew, George Williams. He is survived by his son, Adam Powell, of Cleveland, MS; his daughter, Kellie Smith, of Utah; his stepmother, Helen Powell, of Grenada; and stepsisters Shellie Little (Guy) and Linda Lovette, both of Grenada, MS. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will lovingly remember him.

A private family memorial service will held at a later date.
