Helen Elizabeth Chamness

SHELBY - Helen Elizabeth Wells Chamness, age 86, of Shelby, MS, passed away on Tuesday December 18, 2018 at the Shelby Nursing and Rehabilitation. 

 

Visitation will be held Friday December 21, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS.  Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December, 22. 2018 in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Delta Heights Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Reverend Larry Braswell will officiate the services.

 

Helen was born on May 13, 1932 to Estus J. and Myrtle (Rodgers) Wells in Skene, Mississippi.  She graduated from Skene High School. She married Lawrence Chamness May 25, 1953 in Augusta Georgia.  They moved to Greenville, Mississippi to raise their family where Helen worked in retail for a number of years and as a cook on a river boat. In 1969 they moved back to Cleveland to work at Color Tile before moving to Columbus in 1986 where she worked at Micro Tech as an assembly line operator.  Helen was a member of East End Baptist Church in Columbus, Mississippi and locally attended Calvary Baptist Church for many years.

She loved to garden, make crafts, read and spend time with her family.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Estus and Myrtle Wells, husband, Lawrence Chamness, brothers, Billy Frank Wells and Ralph Lee Wells.

 

She is survived by her Children; Mildred Ann Chamness of Richland, MS, Patricia Chamness Price of Pearl, MS, Michelle Chamness Neely of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mike Chamness of Ridgeland, MS. 2 brothers; James "Sonny" Wells of Texarkana, TX, Gary E. Wells of Skene, MS and Sister, Betty W Danna of Inverness, MS. She also leaves 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Pallbearers will be Bill Ray, Taylor Oswalt, Ryan Oswalt, Drake Lofton, Patrick Wilkerson, and John Paul Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers are Drew Jones, Cody Boyd and Jason Atkins.
