CLEVELAND - Jerry L. Phillips, age 77, of Cleveland, MS passed away on Friday January 15, 2016 at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS.
Visitation will be held Sunday January 17, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Delta Heights Memorial Gardens. Reverend Percy Beach will officiate the service.
Jerry was born on May 23, 1938 to Clyde and Genoa Dawson in Uno Arkansas. He moved to Dahomey Plantation at Benoit in the early 1950's where he worked on the farm until he opened the Gulf Service Station in Beulah, MS. He married Genell Farris Phillips on January 11, 1960. They moved to Cleveland and Jerry worked for Hudson Motor Rewinding, Misceramic Tile and for the City of Cleveland for 25 years as the Street Superintendent. Jerry then moved to Arkansas to farm for a few years. He then returned to Cleveland in 1978 and opened Phillips Plumbing Company. Jerry loved to ride horses and mess with his goats, cutting grass on his John Deer tractor, but most of all, he loved aggravating his grandchildren. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by his many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Genoa Dawson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Genell Farris Phillips of Cleveland, MS. Daughter, Sherry (Mark Tucker) Phillips of Pontotoc, MS. Son, Joe (Pam) Phillips of Cleveland, MS. Daughter, Kim (Randy) Townsend of Cleveland, MS. Brother, John (Sharon) Dawson of Grubbs, AR. Brother, Wayne (Ann) Dawson of Grubbs, AR. Step-sister, Anna Lorene Ivy of Malvern, AR. 12 grandchildren; Landon Phillips, Michael Phillips, Whitney Hood, Megan Goss, Grayson Phillips, Hunter Kovac, Hannah Claire Kovac, Gracie Kovac, Tiffany Keith, Ashley Witcher, Patrick Witcher, and Tyler Witcher. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Phillips, Patrick Witcher, Tyler Witcher, Trey Goss, Scott Hood, Johnny Keith and Hunter Kovac. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Quinton, Billy Perry, Sr. and Kevin Horton and Frank Michael.
