Joe Asa Robertson, age 91, of Southaven, MS, formerly of Columbus, MS , passed away Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch, MS.
Joe was born November 19, 1931, to Ernest Eugene Robertson and Arrie Irene Cochran Robertson in Benton, MS. He graduated from Silver City High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army on January 16, 1951. While in the Army, he married Virginia Minyard on June 17, 1951, in Belzoni, MS. After his stint in the Army, Joe went to work with Mississippi Valley Gas Company where he worked for over 30 years and became district manager for several locations; Meridian, Southaven, Greenwood, and Grenada. Joe was very community minded having served as a former President of the Grenada Rotary Club, President of the Grenada Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Noble Oddfellows in Greenwood, MS, and Commissioner of the Legion S Housing Authority. Joe was an outgoing friendly person who never met a stranger. He was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbus, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Arrie Robertson; wife, Virginia M. Robertson; brother Ernest Eugene Robertson, Jr., and sisters; Opal Irene Twiner and Arrie Ernestine Otis.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Donna Robertson Wilber (Jeff) of Sonoma, CA; grandchildren, Barret Paul Wilber and Emily Virginia Wilber both of Sonoma, CA; sister Frances "Jean" Jenkins of Greenville, MS and brother Dave William Robertson of Ellisville, MS. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory. Special thanks and gratitude are given to the McPhail family who gave him a home away from home and with special love to Joe, Cliff, and James Jenkins, and their mother Becky Cochran for their love and devotion to their "Uncle Joe".
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Harmonia Cemetery in Sallis, MS.
