The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the North Cleveland Cemetery. Johnny was born December 6, 1946, to Juan Soliz and Tillie Salinas Soliz in Shelby, MS. He grew up working on the Domonic Rizzo Farm and married the love of his life Mary Ellen Cockrell on June 20, 1970. Johnny worked for Douglas & Lomason Company in Cleveland, MS and Baxter Construction in Greenville, MS until opening Soliz Industrial Contractors with his two brothers and his son Paul in 1998. Johnny was a hard worker, extremely talented, and could build anything imaginable. His family says "If you give him a picture, he could build it." On occasion he would go fishing if he wasn't taking care of the garden or being with his family he loved and adored. Johnny had several passions in his life, his faith in God, eating, watching Westerns on TV and riding in his Cadillac listening to loud music. One of Ellen's greatest memories is he and their son Paul building the family home with their own hands. He was a committed member of Morrison Chapel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Tille Soliz, his son Paul Soliz, and siblings, Arthur Soliz, Trino Soliz, and Dolly Laro. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Ellen Soliz, of Cleveland, MS, grandchildren; Nathan Soliz, of Clinton, MS, Katie Soliz of Oxford, MS, Allie Soliz of Oxford, MS, daughter-in-law Ashley Stewart of Oxford, MS, sister in law Nadine (Jimmy) McDaniel of Byhaila, MS and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Nathan Soliz, Gilbert Lopez, John Lovett, Danny Soliz, Joe Garcia and Patrick Overstreet. Honorary pallbearers are his nephews; Mike Stuckey, Philip Laro, Jessie Laro, Derwin Baker, and Phil Baker.
