Joseph N Mengarelli, age 84, of Shelby, MS, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at his home. Visitation will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby, MS at 1pm on Sunday, June 12 with the Rosary and mass to follow at 2pm at the same location. Fr. Raju Macherla and Fr. Kent Bowlds will officiate. The burial service will follow at the Jenkins Cemetery in Sumner, MS with Reverend Chris Gentry officiating.
Joseph was born in Shelby, MS to Charlie Mengarelli and Mary Avaltroni Mengarelli on December 1, 1937. He graduated from Shelby High School. Joseph joined the Army where he became a member of the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell, KY as a Paratrooper. He later became a dredging engineer with Standard Oil where he traveled the world until he retired in 1996. In 1996, He became co-owner of Shelby Package Store with his wife, Peggy, until his death. He was an avid bocce player, a beloved member of the Shelby community, a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus, and a communicant St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby. Joseph was married to Peggy Stembridge Mengarelli of Shelby, MS.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and MaryAvaltroni Mengarelli; his brothers, Mack, Roy, John, andCharlie Jr. and sisters Emma Jean Mills and Clara Clubb.
Joseph is survived by his wife Peggy Stembridge Mengarelli of Shelby, MS; Daughter, Lisa Mengarelli of Rathdrum, ID; Daughter, Lynette (Michael) Mengarelli Miller of Cleveland, MS; his special "acquired children" as he called them, Nephew, Len (Kandy) Hamilton of Auburn, AL and Niece, Melanie (Chip) Hamilton Isaacks of Batesville, MS; Brother, Victor (Lee) Mengarelli of Picayune, MS; Brother, James Paul "Jimmy" (Debra) Mengarelli of Lafayette, LA; 14Grandchildren and 17 Great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Buster Wilson, Cash Miller, Chip Isaacks,Len Hamilton, Michael Miller, and Wesley Isaacks. Honorary Pallbearers are Ellis Jenkins, Greg Mangialardi, Joe Ferguson, Larry Bramuchi, Rowan Isaacks, Talen Isaacks, and Trevor Hamilton.
