CLEVELAND - Lamar Hays, age 70, of Cleveland, MS, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at his home in Cleveland after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 29, 1949, to Theodore Bilbo and Annie Ruth Ray Hays in Shelby, MS. Lamar attended Coahoma County Schools, Mississippi Delta Community College, and Delta State University. He married Judy Pruett on November 22, 1967, in Cleveland, MS. He worked at Douglas and Lomason, Baxter Laboratories before opening the family business Hays and Sons Electric. Lamar was a charter member of the Cleveland Moose Lodge, a member of the Cleveland Bowling Association for over 35 years and a member of Morrison Chapel Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing grass, and bowling in tournaments. He and his sons bowled together for over 30 years. He loved spending one on one time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family dearly and was always ready to go for a ride wherever they needed to go. Lamar was a true family man who loved unconditionally and showed his love by always being apart of his sons and the grandchildren's activities. He was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
A Graveside Funeral Service was held Thursday, July 16, 2020, at North Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland. Reverend John Thomas and Reverend David Horton officiated the service.
He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore Bilbo and Annie Ruth Hays, two sisters, Elsie Lindsey and Beverly Hays Spruill, and two brothers, Leon and OJ Hays.
Lamar is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy Pruett Hays of Cleveland, MS. Son, Shane (Becky) Hays of Ruleville, MS. Son, Wayne (Patty) Hays of Oxford, MS. Sister, Lavern Watson of Cleveland, MS. Sister, Wanda Jean (Bobby) Ray of Merigold, MS. Brother, Billy (Syble) Hays of Boyle, MS. Sister, Elizabeth Langston of Ruleville, MS. Sister, Kathy (Danny) Smith of Heber Springs, AR. Brother, Don (Susan) Hays of Pace, MS. Sister-in-Law, Sharyn Hays of Cleveland, MS. 6 grandchildren, Tiffany, Tyler, Regan, Colby, Molly and Macey. 6 great-grandchildren, Keylon, Anna, Ashlynn, Abbi, Ava, and Jase. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
Pallbearers are Chris Hays, Jeff Langston, Steve Ray, Dwaine Ray, Bobby Ray, and Raymond Daniels. Honorary pallbearers are Keylon Hays, Tyler Hays, Colby Walker, Michael Arnold, Blake Campbell, Molly, and Macey Hays.
