Madeline Carroll Millican departed this life on January 17, 2025, at the Bolivar Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy that will resonate through the hearts of her family and all who knew her. Born on December 6, 1947, in Jennings, Louisiana, Madeline's journey was marked by an unwavering love for her family.
Madeline graduated from Leflore County High School in 1966. Madeline’s college education came later in her life when she returned to Delta State University to complete her Master’s degree in special education.
Beyond her remarkable professional accomplishments, Madeline loved to cook for anybody and everybody. Her family claims there is no other fried chicken like hers! Animals—furry companion cats and dogs, deer, opossums, raccoons alike, even once she was feeding a skunk that showed up at her house—held a special place in her heart, reflecting her compassionate spirit. Above all, her greatest passion was her family. She took immense pride in her children and grandchildren, ensuring that each one knew they were loved.
In 1968, Madeline married her sweetheart, Henry Lee Millican, with whom she shared a life until his passing in 2013. Together, they built a family that would come to be the central pillar of her life. Her three children survive her: Jeremy Millican and his wife Bridget of Eagan, Minnesota; Ashley Millican and his wife Nicole of Belzoni, Mississippi; and Courtney Howell and her husband Shane of Greenwood, Mississippi. She also had her 7 grandchildren: Sara Kyle Millican, Avery Millican, Peyton Millican, Riley Millican, Seamus Millican, Lucas Howell, and Reeves Howell, who brought her joy and pride. She is also survived by her brother Darryrl Carroll.
Madeline is preceded in death by her parents, Earl Calvin Carroll and Audrey Marie Garner Carroll, and her dear husband Henry Lee Millican. She is also mourned by the memory of her sister, Barbara Rudd.
As we honor the memory of Madeline Carroll Millican, let us remember the warmth of her smile, the depth of her laughter, and the unwavering love of her friends and family. May she rest in peace, knowing the impact she made on all those fortunate enough to have known her.
A Memorial Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Delta Health and Rehabilitation for taking such good care of their mother.
