Mary Frances Butler Nyberg age 86 of Doddsville, MS passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Bolivar, TN.
Mary was born February 3, 1937, to Edward Lee Butler and Gertrude Virginia Dean in Memphis, TN. She was a graduate of Lucasville, High School in Lucasville, Ohio. Moved to Memphis and married William Duke, Jr in 1955. They moved to the Delta to farm in the Clarksdale, Bobo area. Upon retirement, she rented the farmland out and married Mr. Nyberg in October of 1999. She was a member of Linn Methodist Church, loved to travel and writing to pen pal friends all over the United States since the 1940s. She also enjoyed sewing quilts and reading. She loved people and was an outgoing talkative person who most always was on the phone!
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Lee and Gertrude Virginia Butler, Brother, Benny Butler, husbands William Duke, Jr, and Norman Ralph Nyberg, and sons Robert Earl Duke, and William Duke III, and her only granddaughter Natalie Elaine Duke, and her caregiver for many years Buddy Jackson. Mary is survived by her sister Nancy Marie Halley of Memphis, TN, and Helen Jean Emerson of North Carolina. 3 grandchildren, William Curtis Duke (Sheena), and William Casey Duke (Brandy), and Adrian Salem. She also leaves behind 7 Great Grand children, Zane, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Tiffiny, Shain, Leeanne, and JoePaul. She also leaves behind her caregiver Pasty Jackson of Shaw, MS.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday December 19, 2023 at 2:00pm in Goshen Cemetery in Coffeeville, MS. A visitation will be held at Cleveland Funeral Home from 11:00AM TO 12:00PM December 19, 2023.
Mary Frances' grand children will serve as the pallbearers.
Cleveland Funeral Home has been entrusted with the service arrangements.
