Mary Pope

Mrs. Mary Lee Gilbert Pope, age 80, of Ruleville, formerly of Cleveland, MS, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville, MS.  

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the North Cleveland Cemetery. Her son-in-law, Mike Chamness will officiate the services.

Mrs. Pope was born on March 20, 1944 to Homer and Rosie Mae Gilbert in Pace, MS. She married Hubert Leon Pope on September 12, 1964. She was a homemaker and raised 3 daughters. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Rosie Gilbert, husband, Hubert Pope, sisters Rita Moody, Nita Oller and Eva Pearl Gilbert, brothers, Howard Lynn Gilbert, Homer Gilbert, Jr., Alton Edward Gilbert, Billy Ray Gilbert, Joseph Gilbert and Jimmy Lee Gilbert. 

She is survived by Daughter, Cathy (Drew) Dickerson of Cleveland, MS; Daughter, Pam (Mike) Chamness of Carthage, MS; Daughter, Susan Barfield of Cleveland, MS. and a Brother, Bobby (Kay) Gilbert of Pace, MS. Also left to mourn her passing are grandchildren; Kristen Dickerson, Tripp Dickerson, Megan Dickerson, Hailey Dickerson, Taylor Oswalt, Ryan (Alyssa) Oswalt, Melissa Chamness, John Paul (Taylor) Wilkerson, Casey (Tony) Wilkerson Lopez, Patrick Wilkerson, Mia Barfield, and Cory Barfield, 3 great-grandchildren JL Oswalt, Emma Lopez, Owen Wilkerson and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Tripp Dickerson, Taylor Oswalt, Ryan Oswalt, John Paul Wilkerson, Patrick Wilkerson, Cory Barfield and Tony Lopez. 

The Pope family extends a special thanks to the staff of Walter B. Crook facility and North Sunflower Medical Center for their care and dedication.
