CLEVELAND - Matthew Lorenzo Rubio, age 18, of Cleveland, passed away on Saturday July 22, 2017 at the Regional Medical Center (The Med) in Memphis, TN.
Visitation will be held Tuesday July, 25, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland. Visitation will also be held again Wednesday July 26, 2017 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church. Burial will follow in North Cleveland Cemetery. Father Kent Bowlds will officiate the services.
Matthew was born on September 7, 1998 to Jacinto and Brandy (Prewitt) Rubio in Cleveland. He graduated from Cleveland High School in May 2017. While in school, Matthew played Soccer and played the tuba in the band. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and was voted President of the CCDTC Automotive Tech. Matthew was an aspiring artist whose life was centered around music. He had several songs professionally produced. Matthew also served on the Youth Leadership Council at the Grammy Museum of Mississippi. Matthew was also a waiter at No Way Jose. He was a Martial Artist. Matthew touched many lives and made everyone he met become like family. He was an overall great guy, an honest hard worker and very mature for his age. Matthew knew how to make problems seem so small. He was very loyal and loved spending time with his friends. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by all of his family and friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents--Monroe Prewitt and Glenda Moore; his great-grandfather--Lorenzo Rubio and his great-great grandmother Guadalupe Mendieta Rubio.
Matthew is survived by Mother, Brandy Prewitt Rubio of Cleveland, MS; Father, Jacinto Rubio of Southaven, MS; Brother, J.J. Rubio of Cleveland, MS; Grandfather, Pedro Rubio of Tunica, MS; Grandmother, Ausencia Hernandez Rubio of Tunica, MS; 3 aunts, 9 uncles and a host of cousins.
Pallbearers will be Ruben Medina, Booker Leach, Austin Adams, Chris Ballard, Osvaldo Salazar and Joe Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be all workers at No Way Jose.
Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online guest register may be viewed and signed at www.clevelandfuneralhome.net.
