Greenwood

Rebecca "Becky" Joy Gill, age 64, of Cleveland, MS, peacefully passed away on January 22, 2025, at Country Meadows Estates in Greenwood, MS.

Born on December 29, 1960, to James D. Carpenter and Doris Waldrep Carpenter Cole in Clarksdale, MS, Becky spent her formative years in Drew, MS, where she graduated from Drew High School in the Class of 1978. Following her graduation, she proudly served in the United States Navy, where she earned an associate degree and served as a photographer, photographing Naval Balls and Naval Admirals. During her service, she and her husband Frank made history as the first married couple on the same ship; however, they were unable to see one another while enlisted. Upon completing her military service, Becky dedicated herself to her role as a church secretary at Collinsville Baptist Church for many years. Later, she embraced her vocation as a homemaker, providing love and support to her husband and raising their son while they moved across the country for his career. Becky's passions included reading, enjoying coffee, and spending time with family, even if it meant being fashionably late on occasion. She was a valued member of the Collinsville Baptist Church community.

Becky was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Gill; her mother, Doris Cole; and her grandparents, Leslie and Nannie Waldrep and James and Nannie Carpenter. She is survived by her father, James D. Carpenter (Sally]; her son, Zackery Gill (Rhonda); her sister, Connie Andrews (Lamar); her brothers, Doug Carpenter (Tammy), Daniel Carpenter, and Stevie Carpenter (Mindy]; two cherished aunts, Darlene Willingham of Drew, MS, and Barbara Topper of Rena Lara, MS; her grandson, Noah Gill; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel, led by her sister Connie Andrews and nephew Blake Andrews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her honor.

Cleveland Funeral Home is entrusted with the care of Becky's family during this challenging time. She will be remembered fondly and missed by all who knew her.
