Wanda Kay Banks Parson, age 81, of Cleveland, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at Indywood Estates, surrounded by her loving family.
Wanda was born on July 2, 1943, to Gilsie Banks and Opal Lee Huffman Banks in Leflore County, Mississippi. She spent her childhood in Leflore County and attended Leflore County High School. Her dedicated career in food service spanned several decades, during which she worked at Cleveland Health & Rehabilitation, Ruleville Nursing Home, and Delta State University, where she served as the Dietary Supervisor for over 20 years. Wanda cherished her time spent shopping, exploring yard sales, gardening, and, most importantly, being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She attended Interstate Baptist Church.
The family wishes to give special thanks to our aunt Joy who never left our side during this difficult time.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Gilsie and Opal Lee Banks; her sisters, Annette Warner, Barbara Counts, Glenda Malone, and Gail Roncali; and her brothers, Herman and Alex Banks. She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Floyd C. Parson, of Cleveland, Mississippi; her daughters, Tammy Zepponi (Todd)of Leland, Mississippi; Hope Mitchell (Jerry) of Columbus, Mississippi; and Missy Sanders of Cleveland, Mississippi. Additionally, she is survived by her step children Floyd Parson, Jr (Lisa), Kathe Wilson, and Ricky Parson all of Cleveland, brothers, Ricky Banks of Greenwood, Mississippi, and Danny Banks of Sedan, Kansas, and her sister, Joy Upton (Donny)of Cleveland, Mississippi. Wanda's legacy lives on through her seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Wanda will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by her son-in-law, Reverend Jerry Mitchell. Wanda will be laid to rest in Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville, Mississippi.
Pallbearers for the service include Todd Zepponi, Dylan Dye, Kaleb Dye, Landon Kobilka , John Richard Sanders, and Tony Banks.
Cleveland Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Wanda's family during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
